What if my child is ill?

If your child will be absent from class, please send an email to your child's teacher directly or contact the Greek School at 410-633-5020 and leave a message. A written note or email must occupy your child and given to his/her teacher explaining his absence.

If my child is absent, how do I get the make-up work?

If your child is out just one day, he/she should see the teacher when he/she returns the next day or contact the teacher via telephone call or email the same day to receive information on the day's lesson and any homework. If your child will be out for an extended period due to illness, please speak directly with your child's teacher to ensure that your child receives any make-up work.

If we are going on a trip/vacation that means my child will be out of school, what should we do to notify the school?

The Greek School does it best to align itself with the Baltimore County and other public school districts' vacation schedules so as not to cause a conflict in the homes of our students. A family emergency or a death in the family is always excused. If a vacation or trip takes place during school days, please send a detailed letter to the school's director and child's teacher so that everyone is informed.

What if my child is participating in another event being held by the church and will be absent from class?

The Greek School recognizes that many of our students may be asked to participate in a one night event such as the Ladies Philoptochos Fashion Show. Again, the Greek School Committee asks that you notify the director of the school and your child's teacher in advance of the absence. However, it is not excusable to repeatedly take your child out of class to partipatice in other church functions or programs. The Greek School committee discourages such activity and will speak directly with the parents if such a situation occurs.

Where do I drop off my child at Greek School?

The Greek School Committee wants every parent or guardian to physically bring their child into school and hand him off to the teacher. Simply dropping off your child at the door, does not guarantee that your child will reach his or her classroom. Therefore, it is requested that all students are brought into the Greek School by their parent or guardian. Also, we request that all children are picked up by their parents or guardian inside the school to ensure their safety.

How do I know what's going on?

The Greek School provides an annual calendar of events and activities. Also, the Greek School PTA and staff provide monthly reminders via email. It is essential that an active, working email address is given at the time of registration and it checked on a daily basis for Greek School news and information.

What if I have concern or complaint that I want to voice?

Your child's teacher is your first point of contact. If you have any concerns or complaints, please address it first with your child's teacher. If you are not satisfied, then the next step is to speak with the Director of the Greek School to voice your concern or complaint. Depending on the nature of the situation, the Director may request the assistance or involvement of the Greek School President or Greek School Committee in its resolution. However, all concerns or complaints are a private matter and will never be discussed in a public forum as such as a Greek School PTA General Assembly meeting.

How can I get involved?

It is every parent's responsible to attend the Greek School PTA General Assembly meetings. The meeting dates and times are listed on the annual calendar. There are many opportunities to get involved from helping to plan events and activities or writing an article for the Konionia. Please contact the Greek School PTA President about volunteer opportunities.
